Yes. If you are convicted of two or more moving violations totaling four or more points during your 2-year probationary period, you are required to complete the New Jersey Probationary Driver Program.

If you are required to complete the NJ PDP, information about the program will be included in the Fee Due Notice that you receive in the mail from New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission (NJ MVC).

National Safety Council has established virtual classes that will satisfy the NJ MVC requirement.  To register for the class call National Safety Council at (877) 441-9721. Click HERE to view current class schedule.

The cost of the NJ PDP is $75 and includes electronic communication of your program completion to the NJ MVC.

Classes fill quickly. NSC recommends that you complete your registration within 60 days of the Date of Issue on the Fee Due Notice sent from the NJ MVC.  You must successfully complete the course by the deadline indicated in your Fee Due Notice. To register for the class call National Safety Council at (877) 441-9721. Click HERE to view current class schedule.

Immediately after you register, a class confirmation will be sent to you via email at the address you provided during registration. Please review the confirmation carefully, it contains important details needed for the day of class. To print or resend your confirmation, or to reschedule your class, call National Safety Council at (877) 441-9721.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in for your class. You must arrive on time. If you arrive after the class has begun, you will not be admitted and will need to reschedule. You must bring your Class Code Number shown on your confirmation email and a form of identification to class. It does not have to be a photo ID. Examples of acceptable identification include a government-issued driver’s license or non-driver photo identification card, Notice of Suspension, school or college ID, work ID, birth certificate, social security card, etc. If you are unable to provide identification, you will not be admitted to class.

The NJ PDP is a highly interactive 4-hour intervention program that zeroes in on drivers ages 16 to 25 — the group most likely to be involved in a fatal collision. The NJ Probationary Driver Program uses workbook exercises, group discussions, role-playing and short lectures to help keep young drivers safe on the road.

No, successfully completing the NJ PDP does not require a test.

After you successfully complete the NJ Probationary Driver Program, National Safety Council electronically transmits your program completion information to the NJ MVC the following business day. The NJ MVC then updates your driver record within 5-7 business days.

Once registered all fees are non-refundable. To reschedule your class, call National Safety Council at (877) 441-9721.

  • You can reschedule your class to a different date or location without a fee up through the day prior to your chosen class date.
  • Rescheduling on or after the start date of your class for any reason requires a mandatory, non-refundable rescheduling fee of $25. Reasons may include, but are not limited to:
    • Driver is unprepared with proper identification
    • Driver arrives late to class
    • Driver is late returning from breaks

If, after registering for the Probationary Driver Program, you win an appeal and your suspension is rescinded, you may request a refund of class fees.  Class fees will only be issued if you have not yet attended a class.  Cancellation requests received after the class has been completed will NOT be eligible for a refund.

Should your bank return your personal check to National Safety Council for insufficient funds (or any other reason), you will be charged a $25.00 returned check fee. If your credit card company processes a chargeback, you will be charged a $25.00 credit card chargeback fee. In either of these instances, only a money order or bank check will then be accepted for the class fee and the insufficient funds / chargeback fee. You may not be allowed to attend your scheduled class or your completion may not be reported to the MVC until you have paid all appropriate fees.

In the event of a weather-related or other emergency cancellation, National Safety Council will contact you at the telephone number and email address you provided during the registration process. The facility hosting the class will be notified and a sign may be posted. We will work with the instructor and facility to reschedule the class to a new date and time. If you are unsure if your class has been canceled due to weather, or if you feel it is unsafe for you to travel to your scheduled class due to weather, please contact the National Safety Council. Please note, neither NSC nor NJ MVC is responsible for any Probationary Driver Program that does not get completed by the required deadline due to a weather-related or other emergency cancellation.

All of our classes are in English, unless otherwise noted. If you need assistance with translation, please have someone attend class with you. They must be over the age of 18 and provide proper identification. Due to classroom capacity, please contact National Safety Council at [email protected] at least two weeks prior to your scheduled class date to reserve a seat if you plan to have someone attend with you. If you do not reserve a seat for your guest prior to class, you may be asked to leave (depending on classroom capacity) and will need to reschedule.
