February 1, 2010 - as of today, enforcement begins on the new legislation prohibiting cell phone use by drivers in BC. The British Columbia Medical Association, who have lobbied so long in support of this safety initiative, celebrates this day. Thank you!

These are interesting strategies for prevention that rely on recent neuroplasticity research.

April 18, 2009 - BCMA Board of Directors Approves the new chapters recently available for review on this site. These chapters have now been removed at the request of OSMV, pending the next steps in development of a new "Guide to Drive" for British Columbia.

December 5, 2006 - CMA publishes seventh edition of Determining Medical Fitness to Operate Motor Vehicles - one copy free to each member of the Canadian Medical Association - Ordering Information is available here.

June 2006

BC's Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles (OSMV) and Canada's Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) co-sponsored a two-day workshop in Vancouver June 15 & 16, with invited experts having international reputations, to work on developing agreement on best practices for assessing Functional Capacity for driving. This is a critical element in the editorial process for the next edition of the BC Guide to Drive, so that it meets the requirements of the Grismer case and is, as much as possible, evidence-based. December 4, 2003 - The document British Columbia: Report a Condition Affecting Fitness and Ability to Drive is available for printing. This may be used for reporting, approved by the OSMV (updated July/09). If you fax this form, please do not mail it as well, only one input requested.
